How long does it take to get OMMU approval?
Oscar Wilde said “ If a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing well. If it is worth having, it is worth waiting for. If it is worth attaining, it is worth fighting for. If it is worth experiencing, it is worth putting aside time for”. A very powerful message for individuals who put time in applying for OMMU approval. It is worth waiting for. But how long?
Patients and caretakers are required to apply annually to maintain an active Medical Marijuana Use Registry Identification Card. Applications for renewal may only be submitted beginning 45 days before your card expires.
There are two ways of applying for the Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU). One is through online submission. Just retrieve your login credentials if you have an account already and log-in to apply. Another means of applying is by mail. You are just going to print a patient or caregiver application then complete all required fields to be filled out. Then after that, send your mail to the Office of Medical Marijuana Use. Make sure everything is correct and the documents are still valid to avoid delay.
OMMU Processing Period
The estimated processing period for the whole request approval process is 10 working days from the submission date. Payments take five (5) business days from the date they are submitted in the Medical Marijuana Use Registry to be fully processed and posted. The transaction processing cycle can take up to an additional five (5) business days until the payment processes are full. When some aspect of the request is incomplete, or you have submitted an expired document then it will be denied, and the approval date will be extended. Typically, you should be approved within about 5 to 10 business days if everything is correct. Do not count the days of the weekend.
Update as of February 1st 2022: Florida Residents that have an unrestricted license or ID Card on file with the Florida DMV can now get immediate cannabis card approval upon submitting their card application and $75 application fee. This will allow them to purchase right away if their marijuana doctor entered active orders in the registry. For those with a restricted license that does not populate in the OMMU system, normal processing time-frame will apply.
Rejected applicants will be notified first in about five (5) business days. Don’t worry, if you have resolved the problem and you can identify why it is denied, you may re-submit. The OMMU approval method is usually speedy and simple.
There are two (2) options to find out whether you have received a medicinal marijuana authorization in Florida. One, the OMMU will contact you through your email once your application has been approved and your deposit has been processed and posted. Often the email will land in the junk/spam folder and sometimes it doesn’t come at all. Alternatively, you could sign in to your OMMU account to verify your record.
