Medical Marijuana And Dabs?
What Are Dabs?
Sometimes referred to as shatter, budder, honeycomb, crumble, wax or hash oil; these concentrated doses of cannabis can be called Dabs. These extracts often test between 60-90% THC, while whole flower tends to test between 10 to 25% THC. This means it doesn’t take much to become extremely high! Although a fatal overdose with marijuana is not possible, a severe feeling of anxiety and discomfort certainly is. This is why it is very important to start low and slowly increase your dosage until the desired relief is reached.
How Are Dabs Made?
Dabs are made by using a solvent to extract or “strip” high levels of THC and other compounds from marijuana. Sometimes the solvent is a chemical such as butane; however, Florida dispensaries advertise using a much safer C02 extraction method. If medical marijuana extracts have been properly manufactured without chemicals, patients can medicate with a clean, pure product that’s easier on the lungs. When smoking cannabis, burned plant matter produces resin and hot smoke, but extracts eliminate most of this unwanted material while still delivering essential cannabinoids and terpenes.
How Are Dabs Used?
Dabs are typically heated on a hot surface, usually a “nail” (not an actual nail, but the metal, glass, or ceramic spike attached to a pipe) and inhaled thru a dabber rig. The rising popularity of the concentrates has resulted in a much greater variety of high quality extracts available to medical patients in Florida. For more experienced patients who are in need of immediate relief from severe symptoms Dabbing can provide a quick solution, but it is important to remember it may feel a lot more intense to those accustomed to the whole flower method of consumption.
Where Can I Get Them?
Most Florida Dispensaries are now offering different concentrate choices for patients. They are available from multiple different cannabis strains and in varying potency. Trulieve offers a “Crumble Concentrate” that many patients love and Curaleaf offers a Predator Pink “Shatter” (along with a crumble) that gets equally positive reviews.
